NURSERY TO OPEN FOR CHILDREN AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE’S NEW NEIGHBOURHOOD, EDDINGTON

A new nursery is to open at Eddington, the University of Cambridge’s new neighbourhood in the city.  The nursery, operated by Bright Horizons, is for children of University staff, students and affiliated groups as well as the wider community.

The Eddington Nursery has recently been shortlisted for the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Stirling Prize thanks to its unique design that has been inspired by the college cloisters and courts of the city.

The beautiful, purpose-built setting boasts four individual rooms which are each tailored to different age groups and offer access to the large external play area and courtyard where the children can play and explore.

The nursery is set to open in the autumn and will offer care between 8am – 6pm Monday to Friday throughout both the academic year and holiday period, with demand expected to be high.  The setting will be managed by Jemma Payne who has more than 9 years’ experience of working for Bright Horizons in care and education.

It is hoped the nursery will help address a shortage of high quality nursery places in the city for children of Cambridge University staff and students and in the wider community.

Bright Horizons Director of Employer Partnerships, Denise Priest, said: “Bright Horizons is delighted to partner with the University of Cambridge to open a nursery on this breath-taking development.  We share a commitment to providing exceptional education and lifelong learning, and I’m thrilled that together, we can support even more employees, families and students and allow them to fulfil their goals at this global centre of excellence."

Sue Davis, Head of Childcare Services at the University of Cambridge, said: “As a purpose-built facility for babies and toddlers, the Eddington Nursery combines colour, shapes and natural light from the architecture and the surrounding play spaces to create a very special place. We are looking forward to opening this stunning new facility this autumn.”
