Modern Families Index 2024

MFI Update 2024

This year’s Modern Families Index reveals a higher risk of employees looking to leave their current roles. Working parents and carers are feeling the stress, and concerns around mental health for themselves and their family are increasing, while perception of their employers’ family support is declining.

Of the 3,000 working parents and carers surveyed, women are finding themselves impacted the most on almost every level, bearing the majority of the family mental load and feeling less able to progress in their careers while working flexibly.

The risks and realities of today’s working landscape are explored in this report, alongside key retention tools to help employers plan for successful futures.

Key highlights from this year’s report include:

  • Over two fifths (42%) of respondents are now likely to look for new employment in the next twelve months.
  • Childcare is critical for career progression. Over 3 in 4 (78%) would need to carefully consider their childcare options before accepting a promotion or a new job.
  • Employer support is not felt as strongly as last year. There is a drop in working parents feeling their employer is supportive of family life and responsibilities.
